Both sides of the canal have bicycle paths which are actually service roads maintained by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The Cape-side path runs 6.8 miles. Parking is available under the Buzzards Bay railroad bridge, the Bourne Bridge and the Sandwich Marina area. To access the 7.2 miole mainland-side path, park at the railroad bridge in Buzzards Bay, under the Bourne Bridge, at Bourne Scenic Park , at the herring run or the canal recreation area on Bourne Scenic Highway, under the Sagamore Bridge and at Scusset Beach.

The Boston-Cape Cod Bikeway is made up of two sections, both using low traffic volume roads. The Claire Saltonstall Memorial Bikeway is a signed route between Boston and Bourne, a distance of approximately 65 miles. The 70 mile segment on Cape Cod from Bourne to Provincetown and a spur from Bourne to Woods Hole have been marked by arrows painted on the road.
