Driver's License
To obtain a Massachusetts driver's license, you will not be required to take a driving or written test if you have a valid license from any state in United States. At a branch office of the registry of Motor vehicles, you must fill out an application form and pass an eye test. Some new residents may be required to provide a previous driver's record.

Inspection
Within seven days after registering your car in Massachusetts, you must have it inspected at any gas station or automobile repair shop that has been certified by the registry of Motor Vehicles as an official inspection station.

Registration
Residents of Massachusetts are required to register their cars. You may register your automobile at any local office of the Registry of Motor Vehicles. You will need to present proof of ownership and insurance certification issued by a licensed Massachusetts insurance company indicating your car is insured in accordance with Massachusetts’s laws.

Seat belts
Massachusetts requires all drivers and all passengers of private passenger vehicles to wear a fastened seat belt.

Sales tax
If you move into Massachusetts within six months of purchasing a car, you must pay either the full sales tax on the car or the difference between the Massachusetts sales-tax and that of the state where the car was purchased, depending on whether Massachusetts has a reciprocity agreement with that state.

Licenses/Permits

Boats/recreational vehicles
All boats with engines and all recreational vehicles such as snowmobiles and trail bikes must be registered with the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife, a Division of Law Enforcement.

Fishing/hunting
State licenses are required for all persons, age 15 or over, to hunt or fish in any inland waters. A Hunter's Safety Certificate or proof of a previous year's license is required. Licenses are issued by city and town clerks and the Division of Fisheries and Wildlife. They can also be purchased at sporting goods stores.

Guns
Gun and firearms permits are issued by local police departments. Three basic types of permits allow certain type uses and impose certain restrictions on the use and transport of these firearms. A strictly enforced Massachusetts law imposes a one-year jail sentence for anyone illegally carrying a handgun, rifle, or shotgun. For further information, contact your local police department.

Marriage
The legal age to Marry is 18. All people who Marry in the state must have a marriage license issued by any city or town clerk in Massachusetts.

Residency
There is no formal procedure for establishing legal residents in Massachusetts. Voter or automobile registration, a driver's license, the appearance of a person's name on a city or town street list, and rent, utility, are mortgage bills provide tangible proof of residence. However, individual’s public or private agencies or institutions may have their own requirements for proof of residence.

Voter Registration
If you are United States citizen, a Massachusetts resident, and you will be 18 years on or before Election Day, you may register to vote in Massachusetts at your city or town hall as soon as you have established an address in the state. Registration Massachusetts is permanent. You must register again only if your move would change your name.
