Jewelry Design with Found Objects

Saturday, June 3, 2017 - 10:00am to Sunday, June 4, 2017 - 4:00pm

This weekend-long workshop will cover two different approaches to cold-connecting found objects for creating jewelry or small sculptural works: rivets and tabs. Day one will focus on a review of basic metalsmithing skills including sawing, piercing, filing, sanding, finishing, and patinas in addition to introducing students to several variations of rivets (raised, flush, tube, and standing). Day two will address texturing metal using the rolling mill, creating a frame with tabs for a found object and ‘setting’ the found object using tabs.
