Wrought by My Hand Exhibit
This popular is guest-curated by Julianne Mehegan, and the display features twenty-five beautifully crafted embroideries and samplers from the Society’s collection. These remarkable examples of schoolgirl craftwork offer a glimpse into the lives of early American schoolgirls, and the social and artistic expectations citizens of the young American Republic held for their women they would become. Held in the tea hut situated in a Japanese garden on the museum grounds. Shofuan, the "Wind in The Pines Hut" was built in Kyoto Japan in 1969 and reassembled here in 1975. Shofuan is a traditional san jo daime (3 & 3/4 size) hut. Japanese huts are described by the number of mats they accommodate.
