Hats Off to the Arts

Members and friends of the arts are invited to attend this first event in
The Plymouth Guild for the Arts new location on North Street (the former Russell Library). The center's buildings will feature music, cocktails and food. A dance band will play in the Russell Gallery and a trio will perform under a garden tent. Two theme shows of works by the Guild's artists will be presented. In keeping with the theme of "Hats Off", guests are encouraged to wear a hat-beautiful or outrageous, the latest style or something from the 50's, or even a one-of-a-kind creation designed expressly for the gala.
The Guild is calling for miniature art works, 5x7" or 8x10", to be donated for a fundraiser in support of the Plymouth Center for the Arts. The miniature works will be sold/raffled off during this gala event.Works from all media are eligible, as long as they fit the size requirement! Artwork does not need to framed or matted, and presentation will be handled by the Guild. Deadline for submitting work is Monday, May 12th. Work to be submitted should be brought to:

The Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra converts into a super-sized Big Band for a swingin’ Pops Concert celebrating a living legend in the entertainment business.  Popular broadcast personality Ron Della Chiesa serves this exciting event as guest host and Master of Ceremonies, sharing many first-hand stories about his friend, Tony Bennett. In 1692, Puritan Samuel Sewall sent twenty people to their deaths during the nefarious Salem witch trials. The sentencing might have doomed Sewall to infamy except for a courageous act of contrition and public repentance. Hingham Vintage Baseball Opening Bash

Come  to the opening bash of the Hingham Vintage Baseball season at the home of Mike “King” Kelly, Hingham’s 1880’s Hall of Famer at 507 Main Street. At the height of his career, hitter and base-stealer extraordinaire Mike “King” Kelly was hired by the Boston Bean Eaters for the unheard of sum of $10,000! Historical Society members, and current owners of the “King” Kelly House, Moira and Cameron Congdon, will host this grand event. Originally built in the 1850s, the Kelly house contains many of the original fine details of its fine Neo-classical construction, in addition to Victorian-style furnishings that evoke “King” Kelly’s world. Revelers will enjoy live music, beer, barbecue, and a chance to meet sports writer and King Kelly biographer, Marty Appel, who will be on hand to sign copies of his book Slide, Kelly, Slide. Other attractions include raffles of sought-after prizes, including, Red Sox tickets, fresh lobsters, baseball artwork, hand-made bats and more.  “King” Kelly himself will be on hand to give baseball tips to the Historical Society’s vintage players, the Coopers and the Derbys. Tickets are $35 each, $40 the day of the event.
