Grand Re-opening of the 1809 Hedge House
10:00am-3:00pm
One of Plymouth’s landmark historic sites – the 1809 Hedge House - will re-open to the public after five years of intensive restoration on Saturday, November 10th. Visitors are invited to tour the newly refurbished Federal mansion free of charge on re-opening day, and enjoy refreshments and children’s activities on the lawn overlooking Plymouth harbor. The mansion features unique octagonal rooms, authentically documented interiors, and a new exhibit, “Growing Up in Plymouth.” Families may learn about the experiences of Plymouth children in the 19th century, examine toys and games from the period, and try their hand at popular pastimes of 100 years ago. On the lawn, visitors can help work the old cider press, enjoy cider and homemade doughnuts, and join in a range of old-fashioned activities. The restoration of the Hedge House was funded in part by generous grants from the Town of Plymouth Community Preservation Fund and the Massachusetts Preservation Projects Fund.

Leviathan: The History of Whaling in America
2:00 pm
Please join us in welcoming Eric Jay Dolin author of Leviathan: The History of Whaling in America. Much of America's culture, economy, and spirit were literally and figuratively rendered from the bodies of whales. In Leviathan historian Eric Jay Dolin chronicles the epic battle between man and the sea — and, in this case, between man and beast. Dolin traces the rise of this burgeoning industry-from its rapid expansion in the colonial era to its Golden Age in the mid-1800s, when more than 60 ports got into the whaling business and the sails of America's whaleships whitened the seven seas.

The 62-member community chorus will be conducted by PFC Music Director, William B. Richter. The concert features several works of composer Edward Elgar, in honor of the 150th anniversary of his birth.
Also in preparation are The Liebeslieder Waltzes by Johannes Brahms. This German-language piece features a unique “four hand” piano accompaniment, to be performed by accompanist Elizabeth Reilly and guest accompanist Vickie Schlosser. “These fast moving selections of love songs were the popular music for dancing and socializing in the time of the 19th century.” said director William Richter, “The chorus is focused on perfecting the dynamics and presentation of this piece, so that it may remain true to its original form.”
The Pilgrim Festival Chorus is a volunteer, not-for-profit, auditioned singing group dedicated to the performance of choral music.
All performances are held at The Church of the Pilgrimage.
Tickets are $12.00 in advance and $15.00 at the door.

Don and John - Lasting Impressions
7:00 - 9:00pm-Free Opening Reception at the
Ventress Library, 15 Library Plaza, Marshfield
Inspired by the Impressionists, Don Dacier's primary focus over the years has been on plein air painting-painting outdoors. Whether landscape, still life, figure, or abstract, he uses color, texture and imagination to evoke the beauty in and around him. Combined with fine art studies at the MFA School, Mass. College of Art, and the Art Institute of Boston, Don's experience as a technical illustrator has enhanced his ability to convey his vision onto the canvas. His oil paintings reside in collections throughout the U.S. and Europe. Long-time Hanover resident, John Nutter earned his BA at Bridgewater State College with a concentration in fine arts. He enrolled in a pastel class with North River Art Society instructor Liz Haywood-Sullivan, and also completed a workshop given by Albert Handell and Anita Louise West. John is a member of numerous art organizations, and his works have won a number of awards. Show runs November 19-January 12

Don and John - Lasting Impressions
