The Ice Bucket Challenge was a viral craze that swept the nation during the summer of 2014 and raised money for ALS research, but not many people know its origin. In The Ice Bucket Challenge: Pete Frates and the Fight Against ALS, authors Casey Sherman and David Wedge tell the uplifting and inspirational story behind the phenomenon.

When Pete Frates, a former Boston College baseball star, was diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, he refused to fight the disease alone. A man whose love for others was unshakable, he helped to mobilize a global army to combat one of the most devastating diseases on earth. To date, the Ice Bucket Challenge has raised over $115 million for ALS research. Half of all proceeds from sales of The Ice Bucket Challenge book directly benefit the Frates family.

Sherman and Wedge will speak about their book at the Kingston Council on Aging. Donations for ALS research will be accepted at the event.

Casey Sherman is an award-winning journalist and recipient of the Edward R. Murrow Award for Journalistic Excellence. David Wedge writes for VICE and was an investigative reporter at the Boston Herald for 14 years. Sherman and Wedge were co-authors of Boston Strong, which was the basis for the blockbuster film Patriots Day.
