CAPE COD, MA (May 2, 2019) – IMPACT Melanoma, a national non-profit organization dedicated to working to reduce the incidence of melanoma, is pleased to announce the installation of their cutting-edge automatic sunscreen dispensing units at the five ferry terminals operated by the Woods Hole, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket Steamship Authority. IMPACT is thrilled that the largest ferry service in Massachusetts, providing transportation to the islands of Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket from Cape Cod, will install the dispensers at all of their port locations for the benefit of customers and employees alike.
“IMPACT is delighted that the Steamship Authority has hopped on board with us in our quest to spread awareness of the imperative need for proactive skincare measures,” said Laurie Seavey, IMPACT’s Practice Safe Skin Manager. “I’m so excited to be able to apply sunscreen prior to jumping on a ferry and sailing off into the sunset! This is a great community partnership that I’m ecstatic about on a personal and professional level.”
The Steamship Authority is acquiring five (5) automatic sunscreen dispensers (look for the bright yellow units throughout the port), complete with sun safety posters, which will be available at all of their terminals by mid-May 2019.
“We are pleased to provide complimentary sunscreen for our employees and customers in the fight against skin cancer,” said Steamship Authority Director of Marketing Kimberlee McHugh. “With these sunscreen dispensers at our terminal locations in Woods Hole, Hyannis, Nantucket, Vineyard Haven and Oak Bluffs, we encourage everyone to protect their skin while traveling on board our ferries or visiting Cape Cod or the islands of Martha’s Vineyard or Nantucket.”

About Practice Safe Skin
In response to the Surgeon General’s 2014 Call to Action to address skin cancer as a major public concern, IMPACT Melanoma and partner Bright Guard, launched a pilot program called Practice Safe Skin during the summer 2015 to donate free sunscreen throughout Boston parks and Massachusetts beaches at no cost to taxpayers. Following the success of the pilot program, the Practice Safe Skin initiative is expanding to offer cities and businesses across the country the ability to purchase and provide this public safety program.
