THE PHIL’S OPENING NIGHT CONCERT - SYMPHONIC SPECTACULAR

Saturday, September 28, 2019 - 7:30pm

While The Sorcerer’s Apprentice cautions about the consequences of unleashed power, this opening night piece shows no restraint.  Its whirling, brilliant, playful instrumentation rises to an insistent climax as the music evokes visions of marching mops gone wild!  Composer Paul Dukas drew his inspiration from that very story as described in the poem by Goethe, and popularized by Walt Disney’s film Fantasia.  Elena Roussanova Lucas’ Suite: Moments of Arrival sparks wonder and reflection with music illustrating the spirit of nature and the excitement of travel.  Saint-Saëns magnetic and heave Read more about THE PHIL’S OPENING NIGHT CONCERT - SYMPHONIC SPECTACULAR

The band started out as a four-piece with no piano, became a five-piece for several years, and then returned to a four-piece configuration, this time with no bass, and it's been that way for over 10 years. Amy Helm (Acoustic)

Saturday, October 26, 2019 - 8:00pm

Amy Helm sought what she calls a “circular sound” for her new album. It’s a well-rounded one, one marked by streaks of Americana, country, blues, and gospel, and the kinds of four-part harmonies that can burst open a melody and close the loop of an octave. And sentimentally, it’s a sound that represents the feeling of community. This Too Shall Light, released September 21, 2018 on Yep Roc Records, comprises 10 songs produced by Grammy-winning producer and songwriter Joe Henry. Read more about Amy Helm (Acoustic)
